Not much happens in a village without the help of our translators. Most Brazilians speak Portuguese but occasionally in an indigenous village even our translators are at a loss.
One morning team captain, Brian Mikell, and I along with our translator, Lilli, shared the Evangecube with a group of ladies. It soon became apparent that there was a breakdown in communication. Many of the ladies did not speak Portuguese but only their native tongue, Ticuna. Imagine trying to explain the Gospel going from English to Portuguese to Ticuna. We were most thankful for the ladies present who could share with their friends.
But perhaps the most fun came on my first trip, watching another team member, Maria Lucia Picoli, try to converse with me. Because she grew up as a native speaker of Portuguese she is able to speak freely but when she turned to speak to me in her excitement she continued in Portuguese.
